DIRECT METAL LASER SINTERING (DMLS) is latest technology for manufacturing dental crown and bridges. This system uses Computer Aided Design (CAD) data to fabricate the desired frame by selectively sintering the alloy powder layer by layer. This machine uses special based alloy, which is highly bio-compatible. It offers a high tensile strength of 1350mpa and has an excellent bonding strength.

Dental technology is undergoing advancements at a fast pace and technology is being imported from various other fields. One such imported technology is direct metal laser sintering technology for casting metal crowns.

DMLS laser crown and bridge

Laser sintering is the newest technology in metal manufacturing. DMLS is a manufacturing process for producing complex 3D components directly from 3D CAD data without using any machining.
Laser sintering is also referred to as “3D printing” because it builds up framework in a series of successively thin layers. A high powered laser beam is focused onto a bed of powdered metal and these areas fuse into a thin solid layer. Another layer of powder is then laid down and the next slice of the framework is produced and fused with the first. When all the layers have been built up, the solid copings and bridge frameworks are taken from the machine, sand blasted, polished, inspected and ultrasonically cleaned.

Stainless steel crowns are prefabricated crowns that are used on permanent teeth. The crown protects the tooth or filling. For children, a stainless steel crown is commonly used to fit over a primary tooth that's been prepared to fit it. The crown covers the entire tooth and protects it from further decay. When the primary tooth comes out to make room for the permanent tooth, the crown comes out naturally with it. In general, stainless steel crowns are used for children's teeth because they don't require multiple dental visits to put in place and so are more cost- effective than custom-made crowns and prophylactic dental care needed to protect a tooth without a crown.

These habits usually fade away as they grow up, if the practice persists after the permanent teeth have erupted, it can drastically change the growth patterns of the jaw and can ruin the alignment of the teeth Children have a very soft bone in their jaw, so if they catch such habits it can make the soft jaws change its shape according to the force being applied on it. So it’s very important to stop these habit by making the child understand the consequences of continuing such habits. But for some kids they need some appliance to break the habit.

What are the available appliances: Here are the basic treatment option for some of the common oral habits

THUMB SUCKING:- If your child has a thumb or finger sucking habit that has persisted past the age of five, and you have been unable to tame it, a more permanent solution to thumb sucking is an appliance called a fixed palatal crib or a rake-style appliance.

TONGUE THRUSTING:-It's the natural swallowing movement of tongue, but some kids take it as a habit to repeat this movement which will result in the deformity of the arch. If the pattern doesn’t change, however, it can lead to problems similar to those caused by thumb sucking like problems with tooth alignment and skeletal development. This is treated with a tongue thrusting habit breaking appliance. This can be either in the form of the crib, rake, spiky style or beaded

MOUTH BREATHING:- Normally breathing is through nose, mouth breathing can lead to decrease in saliva and it makes teeth more prone for caries. One can probably assume that there may be some kind of psychological disturbance in the child’s mind. This must be identified and rectified at an earlier stage whenever possible. Some habits develop due to anrazorpayical deviation. As blocked nose due to recurrent cold or deviated septum can force the child from mouth and thus the habit of mouth breathing develops. Appliance used for treating this is an oral screen. The oral screen prevents the inhaled air to enter the oral cavity. The oral cavity can also be closed.
